There are many hidden gems in Blockhouse Bay and one standout spot is Levain Artisan Bakery just minutes from Ryman’s Murray Halberg Retirement Village. If you appreciate delicious baking with flaky, golden, buttery goodness this place is a must visit.
They’ve got everything from artisan pies, slices and cakes, to pastries, sourdough loaves and filled sandwiches.
Run by the Vo family, every tasty treat is handmade onsite with quality produce and locally sourced ingredients. Their love for innovation shines through their ever-expanding range of pie flavours including slow cooked beef cheek, jalapeño & cheddar, smoked wagyu brisket in BBQ meat sauce and potato topped smoked kahawai. It's truly a pastry lover's dream.
Levain’s sweet treats are equally delicious and range from zesty lemon meringue tarts, mouth-watering carrot cake and gooey banoffee pie through to crème brûlée doughnuts and almond croissants bursting with frangipane filling.
What began with a modest team of three has rapidly grown to a team of 15 skilled artisans in less than two years. Trin Vo, the owner and chef behind it all, says she’s humbled and grateful for all the support they have received from the local community.
Residents from Murray Halberg Village, which offers independent living, assisted living in serviced apartments, and rest home, hospital, and dementia care, have the best of both worlds with the village's own Pioneers Café serving up delicious food onsite and Levain Artisan Bakery just along the road.
