Anthony Wilding Village enjoys stunning views of the Christchurch Port Hills and Southern Alps. There's a lifestyle option to suit everyone; from townhouses to the extra support of assisted-living apartments, the choice is yours.
The Village also features a state-of-the-art care centre that provides 148 care rooms offering resthome, hospital and specialist dementia care. Anthony Wilding care centre is located within the same village community and, as a Ryman resident, you will have priority access over non-residents at the time of your transfer. Should a space for the type of care the village offers be unavailable at the time of your transfer, we will do our best to accommodate you at another Ryman village that provides the level of care you need* until a space becomes available at Anthony Wilding Village.
Village amenities include an all-weather bowling green, indoor heated swimming pool, spa, internal atrium, library, gym, café, hair and beauty salon, bar, and shop.
There is always something to do; from organised events and shopping trips, to activities that inspire movement. The measure of a full life at Anthony Wilding Village is certainly one that will get richer with age.
*Care options vary between villages, please check with our team for details of the care offered at each village.

Each Ryman village is named in honour of a Kiwi or Aussie trailblazer: Anthony Wilding, Lady Diana Isaac, Evelyn Page. They pushed further and set the bar high for others to aspire to. In creating communities that challenge the expectations of ageing, Ryman villages are also setting the bar high. They’re demonstrating that a retirement lifestyle brimming with new experiences, connections and fulfilment is something we should aspire to. Our Kiwi and Aussie namesakes represent the measure of inspiration, while Ryman villages represent the measure of retirement living.
New Zealand’s first world champion on the sporting stage, Anthony (or Tony) Wilding, was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1978.
At the time of his death in 1915, aged 31, Anthony had won eleven Grand Slam titles including eight Wimbledon titles – four singles and four doubles – Davis Cup titles, and a bronze medal in the 1912 Stockholm Olympics. Showing grit and determination, Anthony persisted for six years after his Wimbledon debut before winning the trophy.
Regarded as a fair and honest sportsperson, Anthony is remembered as debonair and always on the hunt for adventure. In addition to his tennis career, he was a keen motorcycle enthusiast having ridden much of the European continent and America and a first-class cricketer for the Canterbury cricket team in the early 1900s.
Having joined the Royal Marines and served as a Captain with the Royal Naval Armoured Car Division, Anthony was killed in action during the Battle of Aubers Ridge at Neuve-Chapelle, France soon before he was due to marry Broadway star, Maxine Elliott.
Anthony’s book On the Court and Off was first published in 1912. A biography Captain Anthony Wilding by A. Wallis Myers was published in 1916.
